In this post, I’m going to share my Walmart Beauty Box Review for Winter 2018. This is the first time I got this subscription so I’m excited to share what was included and what I think about it. I’ve written a more detailed post as to what this Walmart beauty subscription is all about, so check it out if you have more questions.

There is nothing that specifically says this is the Fall box, so at first I assumed it was the Winter box, that is until I received another one shortly after. So I’m guessing that one is the Spring 2019 box and this one is the Winter 2018 box. I don’t know, I’m still confused so don’t quote me on that.

This is supposed to be a quarterly subscription that is free, but you pay $5 for shipping. Which technically, isn’t free. Whatever, let’s see what’s included.

Walmart Beauty Box Unboxing

This is a quick unboxing video I shared on Instagram. Be sure to follow @tryallthestuff because I share other quick, impromptu unboxing, hauls and shop with me videos.

Walmart Beauty Box Review for Winter 2018

Each box is supposed to include an assortment of new beauty product samples that are available at Walmart stores and

Here’s what was included in the Winter 2018 box:

Biore Charcoal Micellar Cleansing Water

Full size price: $6.47
Full size amount: 10 fl oz

  • Oil-free and non-comedogenic
  • An all-in-one cleanser and makeup remover
  • Supposed to dissolve even heavy makeup without harsh rubbing

I won’t be repurchasing this because it stung my face and eyes. I also don’t think it worked as well as the Garnier micellar water. Additionally, I prefer to wash my face over using cotton pads with any sort of makeup remover. I mainly use the makeup removers for quick cleanups mostly while I’m applying my makeup.

Where to buy

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Full size price: $4.44

  • Hypoallergenic tested
  • Suitable for contact lens wearers
  • Iconic mascara that Maybelline claims to be “America’s favorite mascara”
  • The formula is supposed to condition as it doubles lashes

As makeup has evolved through the last couple of decades, I find it hard to believe this one is still “America’s favorite.” I actually was excited to get it because of the nostalgia factor and because when beauty products are capable of maintaining their shelf space in stores for all these years, they have to be doing something right.

That said, there are better mascaras out there. Maybelline and L’Oreal do a great job with their mascaras, but the formula for this one was just too thin and watery. I like thicker mascara formulas to get full lashes. It would take me a very long time to achieve the lashes I like with this formula so I won’t be repurchasing.

Where to buy

Maybelline Master Precise All Day Liquid Liner

Full-size price: $6.94

  • Fragrance-free
  • Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
  • Thin felt tip eyeliner this is supposed to be water- and smudge-proof as well as long wearing

I loved it and bought the full-size product and will probably repurchase that again when it runs out. This is my favorite part about subscription boxes: I get to try all sorts of makeup in search of those Holy Grail products I will buy over and over again. As a result, this could potentially be one of those items.

Where to buy

Cetaphil Hydrating Gel Eye-Cream

Full size price: $13.43
Full size amount: 0.5 fl oz

  • Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Pro-Vitamin Complex and Licorice Extract
  • Hypoallergenic and non-irritating for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
  • Hydrating eye gel-cream that is supposed to lock in moisture
  • Supposed to brighten and smooth the under-eye area for a well-rested look

I think I have dry skin so I liked how this gel-cream made my under eye area feel so I bought and have been using the full-size product. After a few uses, I didn’t notice any brightening and smoothing, but it still felt great on my skin. I won’t repurchase because I need to find a product with anti-aging properties in it as well.

If you have dry skin and aren’t concerned with anti-aging, I would highly recommend this gel-cream.

Where to buy

Nivea 48 hour soothing moisture lotion in aloe vera

Full size price: $5.48
Full size amount: 16.9 oz

  • Infused with Aloe Vera
  • Supposed to provide normal to dry skin with 48 hours of moisture
  • Supposed to be lightweight and absorb into the skin fast

When I read the ingredients list, I didn’t see any parabens or phthalates, but I’m not sure if those ingredients go by another name. If this actually doesn’t contain those ingredients, I wonder why they wouldn’t have that on the packaging or in the description online. If that’s something that’s important to you, I encourage you to read the label for yourself.

I used the sample I was given and liked it. However, I’m hooked on my Aveeno lotion, so I’m going to stick with it for now.

Where to buy

Hello Activated Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste

Full size price: $4.82
Full size amount: 4 oz

  • Flouride and fluoride-free are available
  • Cruelty- free and vegan
  • BPA free, no phthalates
  • Black charcoal toothpaste that is supposed to whiten teeth and fight plaque
  • Formulated with coconut oil

Brushing my teeth with a black toothpaste is weird. The texture and flavor were typical of any toothpaste, maybe a little runnier, but I’m not sure I have seen any benefits. When I went shopping, I actually added this to my cart but I put it back just because I wasn’t convinced that I need a charcoal toothpaste.

Where to buy

Black Charcoal Bubble Sheet Mask Soo’AE

Full size price: $2.50

  • This brand is inspired by Korean skincare
  • No synthetic parabens, fragrances, colorants, phthalates, or sulfates
  • Charcoal sheet mask designed to create bubbles once it has been applied to the face
  • Supposed to brighten skin, remove dead skin cells and refine pores

I absolutely hated the bubbling sensation and now I avoid it in my masks at all costs now. This brand does make other great products, but this one was a real miss for me.

Where to buy

Garnier Whole Blends Oat Delicacy Shampoo & Conditioner

Full size price: $3.47
Full size amount: 12.5 fl oz

  • Paraben-free
  • Gentle shampoo and conditioner made with oat milk and rice cream extracts to moisturize hair

I used this sample and the conditioner felt a little too watery. I like my conditioners to be a little thicker and creamier so I won’t use this again. This is just my preference though.

Is the Walmart Beauty Box worth it?

So far, I still think the Walmart Beauty Box is worth the money. This month I received a total of 8 samples, which is more samples than a subscription like ipsy or Play! by Sephora. Yes, those subscriptions offer higher end products, but do those products actually cost more to make that these drugstore products? I don’t know, but what’s most important to me is the product’s quality, not the name or the store I bought it from.

There were some hits and misses in this season’s box and since this was the first one I got, I think I won’t be able to tell if this subscription is worth keeping until I’ve reviewed a few more like the Spring 2019 boxes. For now, I’m keeping this subscription.

Have you heard of this subscription before? I’d love to know what you think of this Walmart Beauty Box Review for Fall 2018 in the comments below.
