About Play! by Sephora

$10 per month

6 trial size beauty samples

They claim to have a value of $65, which I don’t agree with

Play! by Sephora Review for April 2019

This is part of the outer packaging with the logo.

Each month your product samples will come in a zip-top bag like the one above. The design coordinates with that month’s theme.

You will also receive a pamphlet like the one above with more information about what is included that month.

Let’s get on with the Play! by Sephora Review for April 2019. Here’s what was included.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara in Black

Full Size Price: $24
Full Size Amount: 12 ml / 0.4 fl oz

From the brand:

  • Cruelty-free and vegan
  • Volumizing mascara

Where to buy

Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Night Serum with Echinacea GreenEnvy

Full Size Price: $58
Full Size Amount: 30 ml / 1 oz

From the brand:

  • A 3-in-1 night serum that resurfaces, hydrates and clarifies skin
  • Contains AHA, BHA and hyaluronic acids
  • Over 1,300 banned harmful ingredients
  • They stick to strict EU standards
  • No parabens, formaldehyde, synthetic fragrance, phthalates, chemical sunscreens, mineral oil, petroleum, SLS, SLES, TEA, DEA, MEA, or GMOs
  • Cruelty-free and never tested on animals
  • Not a vegan brand because they use honey in some of their formulas

My thoughts:

This stung my face a little. I wasn’t sure if it was another product giving me that sensation, but I used this again and felt it again. I think this is because this product is supposed to resurface the skin.

In order to start to notice a difference with skincare, you gotta use it for a couple of weeks. Therefore, I didn’t notice any significant changes with this in a couple of uses.

Where to buy

Sephora Collection Triple Action Cleansing Water

Full Size Price: $12
Full Size Amount: 6.76 oz / 200 ml

From the brand:

  • Clean at Sephora
  • Micellar water with Matcha green tea extract
  • For face and eyes

My thoughts:

When I compare the Play! by Sephora subscription with Ipsy and the Allure Beauty Box, I don’t know why Sephora can’t throw in a full-size or at least a really large sample size here and there. Especially when they add their own products like this one here. I think this is a missed opportunity for Sephora, because other similar subscriptions do it. I do like this subscription, but this really is a drawback. If I was forced to just choose one of these subscriptions, this wouldn’t be it.

All that to say, this makeup remover worked, but there wasn’t anything spectacular about it.

Where to buy

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Radiance

Full Size Price: $38
Full Size Amount: 1.7 oz

From the brand:

  • Face primer with a pearl tint meant to give skin a healthy glow
  • Water-based formula with a minimal concentration of the lightest silicones
  • Non-comedogenic
  • Not tested on animals
  • Products DO contain parabens
  • Products are not considered gluten-free because they are processed in manufacturing plants where products containing gluten are also made

My thoughts:

This is hands-down my favorite product this month. It provides a lovely glow to my face when I apply it before foundation. I am definitely considering buying the full-size when this runs out, but I want to try a couple of other luminizing primers first like the one from Milani that a lot of YouTubers rave about. I feel like I only use this when I’m going somewhere special, but I should use it more often and just buy the full size. Highly recommend.

Where to buy

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+

Full Size Price: $28
Full Size Amount: 4.2 oz / 125 ml

From the brand:

  • Step 3 in the customized system
  • Face moisturizer hydrates all day
  • Clinique products do not contain allergens, irritants or other harmful ingredients
  • No parabens, phthalates, or fragrance
  • Goal of a net zero footprint by 2020

My thoughts:

I like how this feels on my skin, but decided to use this on my youngest son because he developed dry patches on his face. He didn’t say it stung his face or complain about it, which is good.

Where to buy

Verb Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner

Full Size Price: $16
Full Size Amount: 12 oz

From the brand

  • Keratin- and color-safe formula
  • Contains argan oil and pro-vitamin B5
  • Vegan shampoo and conditioner
  • Cruelty-free and not tested on animals
  • No parabens, gluten or harmful sulfates
  • All products are recyclable

My thoughts:

This foil packet sample of shampoo and conditioner is what Sephora considers the 6th bonus item. The bonus item usually is a foil packet of a product or a perfume sample.

Is The Sephora Play Subscription Worth The Price?

I am really taking into consideration canceling this subscription. I think this subscription is worth it for you if you almost exclusively shop at Sephora and love to try a variety of items that they sell. Perhaps I’ve become spoiled by the other subscriptions, but I think Sephora should start including larger samples of items, especially the Sephora Collection branded items like the makeup remover above. I think including some of their brushes would be a good idea, too.

Take a look at the December ’18, January ’19, February ’19, and March ’19 bags as well so you can decide if you think this subscription is right for you.

What do you think about the samples included? Should Sephora step up their game? I would love to know what you think of this Play! by Sephora Review for April 2019, so please let me know in the comments below.
